LO1 - Understanding Job Roles

The media sector I have chosen to look at is film, this is because I am interested and may want to pursue a career in this area of production in the future. There are many roles within this sector, all of which are essential to the finalisation of the product:

Director – it is the job of the director to envision how the film will look when it is finished, translate that idea into instructions for the crew to follow so that their vision is created.

Director of Photography – Envision the visual style for the film and how it can be achieved by working alongside the director to during the preproduction as well as the production.

Editor – It is the job of the editor to take all of the footage captured during the filming and then align it all into an order so that the film makes sense and effectively impacts the audience in the way that the director intended. They will need to be abletouse software like Adobe Premier and Audition as well as after effects on some occassions although usually if FX are needed they are a seperate role and not just made by the editor.

Screenwriter – A Screenwriter’s job is to create the script for the film, this includes dialogue, intonations, stage directions and descriptions of settings and the design of characters.
